Bought a car that was marked up by $2k- a new 2023 Rav4 SE Hybrid. I was under the assumption that the "markup" consisted of add-ons on top of the msrp but I was wrong. The non-optional add-ons brought the car to $37k and the markups put it at $39k. Got a measly military discount and a loyalty discount from the financed amount which barely made a difference in the price. Left the dealership with the final price of over $42k. If I could do it all again, I would and would've bought used, rather than new. Supposedly, this dealership only put markups on hybrids only. Not sure if this is true. My car salesman was honest in mentioning markups from the get-go but he never mentioned how much they were until I drove down to the dealership in Virginia Beach from D.C.
